Ellen Siregar - Grade 1, 2 & 3
Ellen is our teacher for grades 1-2-3 at BME. She has been teaching for fifteen years and children are her best teachers. She is forever learning!
“Over 20 years ago as camp counselor at Byndenwood Camp, I discovered that I would like to teach children. The journey has brought me much adventure, joy and lasting memories.”
She graduated from Andrews University in 1991 with a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. Then she started her teaching career at Calexico Mission Academy teaching fourth grade. It was quite the experience! New culture, fun and happy children. Then Ellen taught in a one-room school outside of Pittsburgh, PA. That was an awesome family experience; sledding, skating, creating musical programs and service projects. After this, it was off to graduate school to accomplish a Masters in Reading.
This started her teaching experience in public schools. Ellen describes this experience as follows: “WOW, was that a major change. Having gone to Adventist Christian schools throughout my elementary and secondary years, public school was very different. For eleven years I professional grew as I teacher. I have been a reading interventionist (1st - 3rd grade) , Title 1 teacher, resource teacher, second grade teacher and kindergarten teacher. Children from all backgrounds from the poverty stricken to the affluent, race and religion sat in my classroom.”
She really enjoyed collaborating with other teachers and support staff.
Sensing a call to return to Christian education and lead children to Jesus where they can have a relationship with Jesus is her primary focus. She is presently teaching first, second and third grade at Blue Mountain Elementary. Praising God every morning with songs and instruments, prayer and Bible stories is truly a blessing. Learning to read, write and do math are important but character building comes first.
